Being an account of my sometimes incredible, sometimes prosaic, always amusing (except when they aren't) adventures in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, featuring a cast of thousands, including but not limited to alley cats with funny tails, aggressive taksi operators, clove-smoking old men in skullcaps, trilingual Chinese merchants, goats living on an embankment down by the river, and the occasional bule with a bad sunburn.
